A Spring Day in Salem, MA
After a busy morning in Boston working diligently to launch our YouTube channel (please subscribe - it’s the number one FREE thing you can do to support us!), we rewarded ourselves with delicious cannolis from Mike’s Pastry before heading off to camp in Salem for the night.
Despite my role as both Passenger Princess and Navigator Extraordinnaire (self-appointed), Phil spent the day planning out our next campsite. With a high 4.5 rating & plenty of positive reviews, we booked a site at Winter Island situated directly on the coastal edge of Salem. We rolled into the campground in time to catch another gorgeous lighthouse sunset.
After a quick trip to a nearby convenient mart (where the bathrooms were quite superior to the amenities at Winter Island), we came back to the campsite and settled in for the night.
Unfortunately for us, we missed this review on Reddit before booking our campground:
Despite hearing raccoon chirps from an army of five-fingered fiends all night long, no animals were able to figure out how to infiltrate our car. One point for the SUV camper set-up!
In the morning, we were off for Salem! The Witch City is known for the multitude of autumnal fans who show up in droves to celebrate the Halloween season throughout the month of October. Nonetheless, the city is absolutely lovely to visit in the Springtime, as well!
We started out the morning with cereal milk lattes from Brew Box (delicious) and made our way through the sites of Salem. The flowers were in full-bloom at the Ropes Mansion (Allison’s house if you’re a Hocus Pocus fan!) and the clouds shielded the sun just in the nick of time for some moody, autumn-like photos outside of the Witch House. We walked along the beautiful property of the House of Seven Gables and solemnly visited the memorial of those murdered during the Salem Witch Trials.
Phil made up for the Winter Island campground selection by finding an AMAZING lunch spot: sandwiches at ChezCasa. This served as fuel for our afternoon which involved traipsing about through Salem’s adorable boutique shops. We particularly enjoyed Salem Bespoke Boutique, where we made quick friends with the owner and bonded over our shared love of Scotland (& the fact that her best friend lives in Lexington, KY!).
In the afternoon, a rainstorm rolled in which only added to Salem’s stormy charm. As the wind picked up, we found our way to City Hall, where Max & Dani’s parents danced all night long to the tune of I Put a Spell On You (another Hocus Pocus reference). We tucked in from the rain just in time to enjoy chocolates from Kakawa Chocolate House.
All in a day’s work in the Witch City. If you’re on the fence about visiting outside of the normal October hours, DO IT. The crowds are slim, parking is abundant, & the sites are plentiful.
Next stop…Maine!
